"Kutsari" and Technological Sovereignty in Logistics

Written by: Maria Jose Gamba Santibanez

Yesterday we celebrated the flag, and today, February 25, 2026, we celebrate the future. President Claudia Sheinbaum has formally consolidated the National Semiconductor Design Center "Kutsari" (sand, in Purepecha). This news is the "game changer" that the logistics and automotive sector was waiting for. It's not another assembly plant; it's about Mexico beginning to design the electronic brain of the vehicles and devices we move daily.

The End of Pacific Dependence

As an AI engineer, I know that semiconductors are the oil of our era. The chip crisis of previous years taught us that depending on Asia is an unacceptable logistical risk. With "Kutsari," Mexico takes the first step toward technological sovereignty. For logistics, this means a radical transformation: we will go from moving containers of imported chips to coordinating local supply chains of high technical complexity.

The project, which integrates institutions like Cinvestav and UNAM, aims for national chip design to be a commercial reality by 2027. This will reduce lead time in the Bajio automotive industry, allowing logistics to be much more agile and less dependent on bottlenecks at west coast ports.

High-Precision Logistics and Security

Moving locally designed and manufactured semiconductors requires a higher level of technical specialization. At Control Terrestre, we are adapting our units with state-of-the-art climate control and pneumatic suspension systems, as these components are extremely sensitive. The "Kutsari" news forces us to elevate our networking standard with high-tech companies to understand the handling requirements of these "jewels of commerce."

The Role of AI in the Chip Supply Chain

The integration of "Kutsari" into the national ecosystem will allow AI applied to logistics to go deeper. By having design centers near transportation nodes, we can implement traceability systems based on national hardware. The teamwork between the government, academia, and carriers like us will create a technological corridor that will shield Mexico from future trade wars between the U.S. and China.

With "Kutsari," Mexico stops being the workshop of the world to become the laboratory of North America. At Control Terrestre, we are ready to move the intelligence born from our own sand.
