Picking
It refers to the process of picking customer orders from shelves and preparing them for shipment.
What is “Picking” in Logistics?
It is a crucial part of the supply chain where workers, often with the help of technologies such as barcode scanners or voice systems, select and extract ordered items from their designated storage locations.
Picking Types
There are several “picking” methods in logistics, and choosing one depends on several factors, such as the type of products, the size of the warehouse and customer demand. Some of the common types include:
By Zone or Zonal: The warehouse is divided into zones, and each worker is assigned a specific area to collect products. This method is efficient for large warehouses.
Per Lot: Workers pick multiple orders simultaneously, grouping similar products together. Orders are then separated before being shipped. Improves efficiency by reducing travel time.
By Orders: Each worker picks products for only one order at a time. Although accurate, it may be less efficient than other methods in large warehouses.
