What is the “Container” in Logistics?

A container in logistics is a standardized cargo unit used to transport goods by different modes, such as ship, train or truck, without the need to directly handle the cargo. These containers are designed to facilitate efficiency in logistics and the supply chain.

Types of Containers

There are several types of containers in logistics, each designed to meet specific cargo needs and facilitate the transportation of various types of goods. Some of the common types include:

  1. Dry Van Container (Dry): It is the most common and versatile type. It is enclosed and sealed to protect cargo from inclement weather and dust.

  2.  Reefer (Refrigerated): Equipped with a refrigeration system to transport perishable or temperature-sensitive goods, such as food and pharmaceutical products.

  3.  Open Top: It has no roof, which makes it easier to load and unload goods that are tall or require cranes.

Features
  1. Operating efficiency: Ground Control maximizes efficiency by standardizing their use, which simplifies route planning and the loading and unloading of goods.

  2. Costs reduction: The use of containers facilitates intermodality, allowing Terrestrial Control to optimize costs by choosing the most efficient routes and modes of transportation.

  3. Cargo Security: By using seals, Land Control guarantees the security of the cargo during transport, protecting it from possible damage and theft.
