The rail transportation system increases its growth in Mexico

From January to September of this year, the Mexican Railway System (SFM) transported 99 million tons, 2.4% above the same period last year, when 96.6 million tons were transported.

These tons, specified the Railway Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTF), were moved in 1.5 million loaded cars, that is, 3.9% more year-on-year. Of the total cargo, 28 million tons, 28.2%, corresponded to national traffic and 71 million (71.71%) to international traffic.Of the international traffic, 53.5 million tons, that is, 75.4%, were imported and 17.4 million (24.59%) were exported.

?Compared to the January-September 2022 period, national traffic grew 4.9%, international traffic increased 1.4%, imports increased 4.5% and exports decreased 6.9%?, indicated the organization in the document Pulse of the Mexican Railway System.

During the period, only Ferrosur, Ferromex and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) of Mexico reported increases of 6.3%, 0.5% and 6%, respectively. 

Of the 99 million tons, 48 million tons (48,54%) were industrial products, 26.4 million tons (26,74%) agricultural products, 11.9 million tons (12,11%) of petroleum products and their derivatives, mineral products seven million tons (7,12%) and the remainder corresponds to forestry products, 

inorganic and animal derivatives, which together transported 5.4 million tons (5,49%).

Regarding the products of the basic basket, the SFM transported 18.3 million tons, corn stands out with 12.3 million tons (67,58%) followed by chickpeas, peas, soybeans and peanuts with 4.5 million tons (24,78%) that in total represent 92.3 percent.
