Meditation in the Workplace: Improving Well-being in Logistics

Meditación

Written by María Gamba A few months ago, a team colleague told me: "I feel like I'm on autopilot all day." And she wasn't alone. Between urgent deliveries, calls, emails, clients in a hurry, and city traffic, many of us live with our body present... but our mind in a thousand different places. And in the midst of that logistics madness that we love so much, yes, but that also demands too much from us, I discovered something that changed my way of seeing days: meditation. No, you don't have to go on a spiritual retreat in Tulum or sit in lotus position at dawn. Meditating can be as simple as closing your eyes for three minutes before a meeting and breathing. That real. And that powerful. Logistics needs pauses Working in logistics in Mexico is living with the clock in hand. We know that a minimal delay can impact the entire chain. But what we don't always accept is that, if we don't take care of ourselves, we also break. Chronic stress, insomnia, irritability, anxiety, burnout. Sound familiar? All of this becomes normalized in logistics environments, as if it were part of the package. And it shouldn't be. Meditating isn't disconnecting from the world. It's, on the contrary, returning to yourself, recovering focus, feeling less reactive and more in control. What company doesn't need that? What if meditation were part of the strategy? In countries like Japan, Germany, or the United States, many logistics companies already integrate mindfulness practices into their routines: active breaks, guided breathing, minutes of silence before key meetings. In Mexico, we're just beginning. But that doesn't mean we can't do it differently. Because here we also have teams that get exhausted, that give their all, that carry not only products, but enormous responsibilities. And they need tools to be well. At Control Terrestre, for example, we started talking about this because we know that a peaceful team works better. That a relaxed operator drives with more focus. That a coordinator without anxiety makes better decisions. And that if we take care of people, we take care of everything else. How to start without sounding like a "life coach" Meditation doesn't have to be weird, complicated, or uncomfortable. Here are some simple ideas that can make a real difference: Three minutes when arriving at the office. Before opening the computer, just breathe. Nothing more. Conscious breathing in the midst of chaos. When something stresses you, take a brief pause and focus your attention on your breathing. Minute of silence before meetings. Not to pray, but to center the team and start without tension. Pause spaces. If there's an empty room in your company, put a plant and warm lighting in it. Sometimes we just need a quiet corner. Apps or guided audios. There are thousands of free options. From 1 minute to longer sessions. Sounds too simple? It is. But that doesn't mean it doesn't work. What we've noticed at Control Terrestre In our team, integrating small mindfulness practices has generated something unexpected: more connection between people. Less shouting, more empathy. More clarity. More sense of team. And mind you, it hasn't become a spa. We continue solving complex issues, managing times, taking care of cargo, and putting out fires. But we do it with more presence. With more cool heads. With less wear. Because we understood that taking care of logistics also means taking care of those who make it possible. Meditating is human, it's not weird You don't need to be a guru. You just need to give yourself permission. Not to become someone new, but to reconnect with what you already are. Just as we review routes, units, or systems, we also need to review how we are inside. Because a calm mind moves the world better. And if we're talking about moving Mexico, connecting industries, boosting trade... we better do it with our heart in the right place. At Control Terrestre we believe that efficiency and well-being can go hand in hand. That's why we promote conversations that help build more human environments, where people don't just produce... they also breathe. Because only this way, with healthy teams, extraordinary results are achieved.
